Throughout 2021 we were constantly searching for the positive stories around, to keep us sane in a world very different to the one we once knew. Gradually we saw changes starting to happen – first there was the relieve when we moved back to Level one lockdown at the end of September. In the weeks to follow, travel started opening up.
BA’s return from London comes just after the first Air France flight from Paris and Lufthansa’s arrival from Munich. It’s wonderful to see the return of airlines from these key markets! In addition, Cape Town is welcoming cruise ships back to is cruise terminal in the month of November. All these amazing developments derived from a huge amount of work put in behind the scenes by industry role players like SATSA, Wesgro, Cape Town Tourism, City of Cape Town and all the smaller individual stakeholders who had to innovate to stay afloat. Once again, the tourism industry pulled together!
A further boost was the vote of confidence received from the global community, when Cape Town was voted for as Africa’s leading city destination, Table Mountain as the continent’s leading tourist attraction and Cape Town International Airport as Africa’s leading Airport at this year’s World Travel Awards. On the back of these accolades, City of Cape Town launched a fantastic marketing campaign in Munich, London & New York, featuring billboards and digital screens with scenes of cape town experiences at bus stops, subway stations and high traffic locations in these cities!
For the first time in almost two years, we can safely welcome travelers from far and wide. And they are certainly eager to return! A busy holiday season awaits!
